Many Christians (especially Catholics) are unaware of God's call to them to participate in the work of evangelization. Some are aware but are ignorant as to how to go about this work. Others try to do this work but are often frustrated and discouraged by their weakness and failures. The work of evangelization should be at the heart of being a true Christian. Evangelization is the practical living out of the two greatest commandments, love of God and love of a neighbour. Thus to evangelize is not an option but a necessity for a follwer of Jesus Christ (ie. to renew the face of the earth).
In the Great Commission, Jesus' call to global evangelization, as contained in the four Gospels taken together, we are able to see clearly God's plan and call, and it is this:- To send us (Jn 20:21), to proclaim the Good News (Mk 16:15), by being witness (Lk 24:48), in order to make disciples of all (Mt 28:19). And whatever makes it all possible is the power of the Holy Spirit (Lk 24:49).
Jesus having won salvation for men, now commissions us to make this salvation known to them. In Rom 10:13-15, it gives a clear process of evangelization "for people to call upon the Lord, they need to believe, for them to be able to believe, they have to first of all hear about the Good News, for them to hear, someone has to proclaim to them and for one to proclaim, he needs to be sent to do so". I and other Christians are called on to the work of evangelization, a work of being Good News to others. Preaching the Good News is intended to bring people to a vibrant life-giving faith in Jesus. Our preaching would be useless if people cannot see the effects in our own lives of what we are preaching. Romans 10:17 "faith comes from what is heard". this faith is crucial in evangelization, as it is this faith that will enable God's people to do superhuman things. So I will end by saying "Evangelization is God's work. We are merely instruments to accomplish it".

2. This course has rekindled the fire of the Holy Spirit in me to have a strong love to evangelize. I should not wait to see people perish who I should have saved. I will also try to talk to my parish priest so that we can form an Evangelization Ministry and see to it that many seminars are conducted to our Christians. To do this I'll be guided by the Serenity Prayer, "God, give me the courage to change things I can, the serenity to accept the things I cannot and the wisdom to know the difference" AMEN.

1. The most helpful for me has been the reminder of what I believe God has called me to do in the field of evangelization. He has gifted me as a person who can easily share my faith with others. I have experienced the Holy Spirit working through me to evangelize others - many times as described in this document and the instructor's commentary. I also was able to identify part of why my fire has burned out, or at least has become not more than a smoldering ember. I seem to have removed myself from what God is asking me to do. I have failed to nurture and nourish myself and have allowed the human element of the Church to influence my fire and mission. I have failed to submit myself to the Holy Spirit as I KNOW I am asked to do.

2. I have been looking for that spark that will send me on the way that I think God is calling me to. I find this lesson very helpful. It reminds me that I MUST spend more time in prayer and study. I must find a way to forgive and move on from the incidents that I have allowed to stand in my way and keep me from doing what the Holy Spirit is calling me to do. I must do the work, prayer, study, faith sharing, that I need to do so that I will once again become the person who can be open enough to the working of the Spirit that I might once again live for God.

1. For evangelizing, we so desperately need the Holy Spirit. Without Him, their will be no power or anointing to witness to the unsaved.

2. This course has kindled the flame of the Holy Spirit to ignite me to have a stronger passion to evangelize. Their is a hell and I want to be used by God to help as many people escape hell as possible.

What was most helpful was the synthesis of the document. Especially in this lesson the two little lists encapsulate the strength of the missionary mandate. It has given me a lot to think about. As a friend of mine says, "how do we move those who are spiritually fat and happy and convince them to become lean, mean, evangelizing machines?" It is going to take a re-evangelization, a fervor from the Holy Spirit. It takes emotion, the sense of falling in love with Christ and his Church in order to want to introduce everyone else to Him. A priest about twenty years ago used this example in a homily about our missionary responsibility. He said that a little boy was waiting for his dad when Fr. Kelly walked up to him. The dad was approaching from the other side. The little boy said to Fr. Kelly, "That's my dad! You're really going to like him!" The point being that we need to be willing to introduce folks to Christ and the Sacraments with the same enthusiasm.
