Lesson 4 - LIFE AFTER DEATH

  1. What is the definition of a “saint”?
  2. What makes you a saint? Remember, we’re not talking about canonized Saints, but your own desire to follow Jesus all the way to heaven.
  3. Read the “Last Will and Testament” of Pope John Paul II. Using this as an example, write your own Testament — a spiritual will and testament covering the legacy that you would like to leave behind after your death, which could be read at your funeral. Note: Even if you choose to keep this so private that no one ever reads it, write it. Write it as a reminder to yourself of your spiritual goals, which you will re-read and revise every year on your birthday. Afterward, describe in the e-class the value of writing a testament in this fashion. (Do not post your actual testament online.)

What is the “communion of saints”?

The communion of saints is the pilgrims on earth (the living), the souls in purgatory ( the souls who are being purified) and Mary and all the saints in heaven, who are fixed in the glory and grace of Jesus Christ.

Are “saints” only those who live in heaven?

No, we are all saints both on earth and in heaven, we share in holiness to do good and to pray for one another as Jesus taught us. In addition, the Eucharist is what brings us together at Mass.

Why can we ask Mary and the Saints to pray for us?
They are closest to God because they are already in heaven and are our intercessors through Jesus for our needs and for the souls in purgatory.

Can our deceased relatives pray for us?
Yes because they are part of the church in heaven and are the intercessors for reconciliation and penance that are on the pilgrimage and the ones in purgatory. Remember we are still all united in the Eucharist at Mass

Can the dead speak to us?

No we cannot communicate with the dead because all revelation has been given to us by God. But they can pray for us being part of the communion of saints.

What is the definition of a “saint”?

A saint is one who is in the mercy and grace of God to do good for others whether it is in social, or praying, just following Jesus’ commandment of Loving God and one another as I have loved you.

    What makes you a saint?

What makes me a saint is that in the passed 20 years, I have been trying hard to following Jesus by learning about Him. In addition, trying to spread the Good News to everyone I meet by both my example and ministries.

When I die, I believe I will be remembered through the ministries I have help start in two parishes such as the RCIA and Adult Bible Study. I am still taken classes and trying to spread the Good News. I do reexamine year by year what I am doing and if I can help do it better.

I hope to leave a legacy of following Jesus no matter what life deals you. This is accomplished by love of God, by education and practice and leaving the legacy for someone else to follow.

  2. lettyab Says:

Yes, Geri, you certainly are spreading the word of God. Look at how you have influenced my life? Because of you, and your example I have taken many various classes and have broadened my mind regarding the Catholic religion. You are so humble, yet your life is an example of someone who is a true evangelizer.

  3. searcher Says:

    1. A saint is one who lets the Holy Spirit be master and teacher in all of their lives.

    2. To be a saint, means to live according to the Word of God, both Old and New Testaments through the power of the Holy Spirit; not by our own efforts.

    3. My legacy is to remember that spiritual values and morals of God’s Word and the teachings of the body of Christ is the most important thing in our lives. We need to empty ourselves from the flesh (our own efforts) and allow the Trinity to empower us to serve God faithfully. I want people to be kind and gracious to poor children who need economic resources to live up to their potential.

2.What makes you a saint? I think making me a saint would be to live by god and his ways.To have an open heart for others when in need.
3.When i die i hope that i have learned more about my religion and carry it with me to heaven. I hope that people will do better to one another and that they can all let god into their hearts as i have.

    1. What is the definition of a ’saint’?
He is someone who had been baptised in the Holy Spirit. Has been a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. One who gives love.

    2.What makes you a saint?
I try my very best to live the life of Jesus. Each time I fall, I get up and carry my cross. I have practise charity and love. Yes I have and will continue to face temptation but remembering that Jsesu is also walking with us makes me strong.

    3. The value obtained in writing this testament allows us to see where we are in our life, the stages of our spiritual life. How far or how close we are to Jesus Christ? I have not written it down in writing but had gone through it in my mind and I see that I have only in the last ten years (the others were somewhat lost) have really been in touch with Jesus. Oh! how great it is to be with God. By being able to use the CCC I am able to know more about God (The bible is his Word and I must make every effort to read it). As I have to review it yearly, it will greatly help me to see how far I have come. I praise and thank God for giving this grace.

  6. njerufranklin Says:

    1. Communion of saints definition-It is the spiritual solidarity which binds together the faithful on earth, the souls in purgatory and the saints in heaven in the organic unity of the same mystic body under Christ as its head.

    2. What makes me a saint-When I was baptized and later confirmed, I was empowered by the power of the Holy Spirit who is my master and teacher. I have tried to live a life of holiness. virtue or benevolence, but as a human being prone to sin, I find myself falling into temptation/sin either of commission orrmmission. I wake up with courage and go for the Sacrament of Reconcillion (Forgiveness) and I am reconciled with my Creator. At this particular time I am a saint worth of Heavenly Kingdom.

3.The value obtained by writing a spiritual will/testment, it allows us to figure where we have come from spiritually, where we are presently in relations to Christ and where we are heading to in spiritual life. In total,How close we are in to Jesus Christ and to his eternal Kingdom.

    EMILIA DIMEO
    LESSON 4.

    1. A saint is a person who follows the way outlined
by Jesus and the Catholic Church for a lifetime.

    2. What makes me a saint is the desire to incorporate
Jesus’ way and the Catholic Church’s way in my life
by doing good outside of the environment I am in for
a good portion of my week. I am just beginning with
this and I think if I work at it enough, there is a way.

    3. The value of writing a last will and testament that
I would like to be read at my funeral is that it gives me
a perspective of what I need to do to reach my goal
of incorporating Christian life into my present lifestyle.
As I said, I have 20 years in the corporate world behind
me and 20 years ahead of me and I do not want people
to remember me as just a brutal business person but
rather as a good person who did everything she could
to bring God and Jesus into other peoples’ lives.
